Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman and Mario Lemieux.
These stickers were first found in dollar stores across Canada and were selling for $1.59 a package in early 1996. In 1998, many of these boxes surfaced at the Hockey Card Expo Show in Toronto Canada and were available $7 a box. Although the boxes are now reasonably priced, the set of 25 inserts are a lot harder to assemble than one might think. There were 161 overall stickers which included 136 regular issue stickers plus a 25 sticker “die cut” sub-set. It seemed that the Gretzky and Roy insert stickers were harder to pull than any others. I opened 50 boxes and the frequency of the 23 other inserts to the Roy and Gretzky’s was about 3-1. The gum put into these packages always stuck to the first sticker, so the first sticker in each package always had to be thrown away. There was no album made for these stickers.
The size of each sticker measures about 6.3 cm X 8.9 cm (2.5 in X 3.5 in). There were 48 packages in each wax box which originally retailed for $0.99 per pack. Each package contained 6 stickers. The minimum number of packages needed to make a full set (assuming absolutely no doubles) is 27.
Gretzky has 2 stickers in this set.
