Wayne Gretzky, Ray Bourque, Denis Savard and Guy Lafleur.
Each team had 6 players represented in this set plus a team logo puffy sticker. When a division only had 5 teams, an NHL logo was added to the panel. These puffy stickers were called such because they were not flat like normal stickers. They were soft and plasticky smooth to the touch. There has been much talk about whether they made the trophy stickers for this set. The album has a section to put your trophy stickers, however, they were never actually produced. I am working on possibly developing some prototypes of what the puffy trophies would have looked like. Stay tuned for this exciting possiblity. There were 21 player panels and 4 Team Logos panels, so the complete set consists of 25 panels. The team logos were made up of 4 Divisions: Patrick, Smythe, Adams and Norris. The player’s stickers were randomly put onto panels where a panel would only have a maximum of one player from any particular team. These panels were originally only sold in Canada and seemed to only be sold in big department stores such as the Bay,Woodwards, Zellers, K-Mart and Woolco (which is now Walmart here in Canada). I remember seeing these right near each til when I was shopping with my mom. The one panel I could never find was the Gretzky #1 panel. All of these panels came wrapped in plastic except for the top which was a light cardboard. Price tags were stuck onto these panels and the most common original price was $0.99 each….the panels that did not sell back in 1983, they discounted to $0.25 each. It is dificult to find these panels without the price tag sticker or sticker residue attached to the top cardboard of the panel. It shoudl be mentioned that these Funmate Puffy stickers were available in Factory set boxes that held 2 sets of the player panels only (the Factory sets did not inclue the team logo panels), The factory set boxes were quite a lot harder to find and I have not personally seen one since about 1999 at the National Sports Show in Toronto. There was also a coiled album issued to house this set. This album was also originally wrapped in a plastic bag. These stickers and album were actually made in Japan but distributed through Funmate Canada out of Burnaby, British Columbia.
The size of each sticker measures about 4.5 cm X 3.4 cm (1.75 in X 1.35 in). There was a coiled album put out for this set that came out in a cellophane bag with an original cost of $0.99. The album featured Mike Bossy, Guy Lafleur, Denis Savard and Bryan Trottier. Each panel originally cost $0.99. Each panel had 6 stickers so the minimum number of packages needed to make a full set (assuming absolutely no doubles) is 25. Your set will come to you with each player on their original “panel”. Some panels do have old price stickers on the label and may show some wear. Keep in mind, these panels are about 30 years old.
Gretzky has 1 sticker in this set.
This album measures about 25 cm X 23 cm (10 inches X 9 inches) and comes to you in near mint condition and currently sits empty with no stickers.
